At sea

 

Arthur left Australia for England on the troopship "Benalla" on 9 November 1916.   He was part of the body of troops known as the 23rd Reinforcements of 2nd Battalion.  

 

 

 Troop transport ship HMAT A24 Warilda - 11,118 tons. 14 knots. P & O SN Co., London.

HMAT Warilda  also transported (on an earlier voyage) Jack Axford, who won the VC in France.

Besides Arthur's group of the 23rd Reinforcements to the 2nd Battalion, the voyage leaving on 9 November 1916 also carried the 5th Reinforcements for the 37th Battalion, the 3rd Pioneers 5th reinforcements, and possibly other units.
