DOREEN PHYLLIS BYRNES

Passed away peacefully on 22 February 2007 at Strathfield, aged 91. Doreen was born in Wagga Wagga on 15 January 1916. She had been a resident of Wagga Wagga, Cairns, Ashfield and Turramurra. Doreen was daughter of Cecil William Steiner and Elsie Mary 'Queenie' Steiner (nee Clout). The Steiner family, from Germany, were early wine growers, initially in the Camden/Nepean area. The Clouts were descendants of Clout family members who had migrated from Kent to Camden NSW in 1839 under the Bounty System, with assisted passage from the Macarthur family to work on the Macarthur estate at Cawdor (Camden Park). Some of both the Steiner and Clout families, on Doreen's lineage, moved to Wagga Wagga district in the later 1800s.
Beloved wife of Mostyn Arthur Byrnes, recently deceased, she is buried with him alongside the Upper Castlereagh chapel, north of Penrith. Doreen was loving mother and mother-in-law of John and Ann. Much loved grandmother of Juliet. Sister and sister-in-law of Raymond (deceased) and Dorothy Steiner and fond aunt of their family. Devoted friend from schooldays of Sadie O'Reilly (Mrs Woodward).
