DISCLAIMER: The information herein almost certainly does contain
errors. It is largely of DRAFT quality intended for private study, by
members of a cooperative for the study of the Lachlan/Sydney/Hunter
regions. If you would like to join this cooperation and/or contribute
information, please contact LachlanHunter at john.mail "at" ozemail.com.au
or telephone (Sydney) 02 9747 3701.
This collection of information on "interesting sites" comes from any and all sources (much of it unchecked). If you know of other places or can suggest corrections, please email.
So far the collection has been mainly building out from Sydney, with some Lachlan Foldbelt additions, and relatively little about the Hunter Valley. For the Hunter Valley the interested reader is referred to:
Amateur Geological Society of the Hunter Valley Inc - http://www.agshv.com
There is no connection between AGSHV (or Bob and Nancy's site as below) and the current site, or LachlanHunter, apart from a set of common interests.
The AGSHV, based in Newcastle, has been in existence since 1978 to pursue interests in Geology etc. (related interests include bushwalking, photography, etc.). In its more than thirty years of existence the AGSHV has organised visits to over 150 different places.
Enquiries - enquiries@agshv.com
There previously was an "Australian Field Geology Club" based in Sydney but it appears to have gone out of existence of does not have a website. It probably has given rise to preserved trip records though (current whereabouts unknown).
Also, more generally, see:
Bob and Nancy's Geotourism Site - http://ozgeotours.110mb.com
Available materials and copyright: Go to Bob and Nancy's website especially if interested in any of the places shown above in the left hand listing. You can download from there PDF documents about these places. Bob and Nancy make their materials freely available to individuals and organisations provided that it is not on-sold. What they appreciate in return is just acknowledgment for their intellectual contribution, and any publicity as may help them in this very praiseworthy undertaking. Their efforts are assisting the touring public with dissemination of information which can be otherwise quite difficult to obtain, and engendering an enhanced appreciation of nature and geology - very praiseworthy indeed, and one wishes there was more like this.
There is no copyright of any sort on LachlanHunter-compiled information (however the original sources of some information used may be unknown or lost. Any material that an original owner does NOT want used here will be removed, if notified.
Also see various interesting materials made available for Jenolan Caves by senior guide Ted Matthews who is very interested in geology - for this go to:

C) PERSONS AND INTERESTS
BOB and NANCY (See their website link at top of this page)
Bob and Nancy visiting Cameron Corner
(The intersection point of thre States - New South Wales, South Australia and Queensland).
Bob and Nancy are career geologists with combined professional experience totalling more than 45 years. Bob has worked throughout New South Wales as a geological and mineral deposit mapper and researcher. He was also involved in research relating to the origin of sapphires in eastern Australia. Bob is a very keen outdoors person and gardener with a passion for nature and particularly geology.
Nancy has worked for the exploration industry in Western Australia and has been involved in geological mapping and research in New South Wales. Her doctorate was awarded for research into a gold deposit in central Western Australia. Nancy is also a very keen outdoors person, photographer and gardener with a love for everything natural.
Bob and Nancy will try to answer any questions about the localities included at their website (q.v. http://ozgeotours.110mb.com )
You can contact Bob and Nancy by e-mail: Bob and Nancy ---- brownr "@" isage.net.au
LARRY BARRON
BARRON, Lawrence ("Larry"), Murray.
[Other nicknames .. "The Barron"]
Contact: barronjandl "at" optusnet.com.au
Interests: Geology and chemistry. Rocks of all sorts, world travel, various minerals and commodities, but above all DIAMONDS (e.g. mineral inclusions to determine P/T of formation, and Raman spectroscopy). He is particularly interested in diamonds from NSW, and from Kalimantan in Indonesia - and in comparisons with modes of occurrence in other countries. List of publications.
Larry retired from government service as Principal Research Scientist (Petrologist), and continues work on the rock collection of the Australian Museum. He has almost certainly seen seen more rocks from New South Wales under the microscope than any other living person. His Ph.D. (McGill University, Montreal) was on "Thermodynamic Multicomponent Silicate Equilibrium Phase Calculations".
