OLD TOONGABBIE

Ashfield Shale - Off Oakes Road.  Portion 155, Parish of St. John.   Production was as much as 70 tons per day or up to 500 tons per week in 1965.  In 1965 Lite-Crete Aggregates Pty. Ltd. was interested in the material from here.  This was presumably the "Lite-Crete P/L" which for a time ran an expanded aggregate manufacturing plant at Bennelong Road, Homebush Bay.   Possibly commenced in the 1930s and continued till about 1967.  (Ref: Mine Record, Quarry No. 639; MR 6136).
